The process of Rolfing begins with a consultation to understand your goals and evaluate your bodys structure and movement. A brief exploration of health and personal history helps to guide the process.
Next the client lies on a table while the Rolfer uses varying amounts of pressure to unwind strain patterns. Clients participate by directing attention to their awareness of sensations, impulses, thoughts, and images. Sometimes the client is asked to breathe into the area being worked, or to make subtle coordinated movements in response to the pressure. The pressure of the Rolfing manipulations combined with the clients attention and their responses facilitate release and realignment of the bodys segments.
Each subsequent Rolfing session concentrates on different aspects of your bodys structural and functional pattern. The results become cumulative as each session adds to the results of the previous ones. Optimum results are usually achieved within a series of sessions that are individually tailored to meet your specific needs. The number of sessions needed to achieve the best results varies for each person according their history, and the rate at which their body is able to change.
Each session lasts about an hour and a half and costs $140. The amount of time between sessions varies and is determined on an individual basis. The average spacing is two to three weeks between sessions.
