Exercise and Fitness

Whether you’re dedicated to your fitness, just getting into shape, or seeking improved athletic performance, Rolfing® will enhance the results of your efforts.

Rolfing works on shortened muscles and connective tissues that result from from too little activity or too much repetitious activity. Both extremes cause muscles to shorten, compress, and compromise fluid movement. Rolfing decompresses your body, restores suppleness, and realigns muscle connections across the joints so your body stays balanced and moves fluidly.

Brian Orser, olympic silver medalist figure skater describes the wonderful sense of lightness he felt right after the first session: “I felt compact and totally in control. I had Increased energy, better balance, and extra agility.”

Even though many dedicated athletes have heard about Rolfing, it sometimes takes a while before they are willing to give it a try. You are always welcome to get in touch with Russell, even if you just want information, or to discuss if Rolfing might be right for you. There is no obligation.

Greg Dutton, a Bellingham school teacher, ski and kayak instructor, incorporates Rolfing as a regular part of his self-care regime.

“I was apprehensive, skeptical, and resistant about Rolfing at first. Now, after almost 6 years of regular exposure to Rolfing, I talk about it to anyone as a great approach to proactively managing their health. “People get bound up, physically and emotionally. Rolfing works in dealing with that.”

Craig Barlett, store manager at Fairhaven Runners in Bellingham, WA worked with Russell Stolzoff to combat stiffness, overcome injury and improve his running.

“I had been experiencing some significant lower back tightness/soreness each morning. Typically, I would move very stiffly for the first few hours of each day, until my back would gradually “loosen up”. Russell felt he could help with this, and he did! I was impressed with how specific Russell was at pin-pointing what part of my body needed attention. At the beginning of each session, he would look at me, then determine a “strategy” to address my body issues. I think this is where Russell’s experience and talent really come forth.

As the sessions continued, we discussed my history as a runner, and my fairly serious knee injury. Russell understood and explained to me how my adaptations to my running form (which enabled me to keep running despite my injury) had essentially twisted me like a coiled spring. After the sessions ended, I have enjoyed a much more fluid feel to my body. The change was subtle, yet profound. I never felt a dramatic sense of immediate relief–rather, it would dawn upon me while I was doing routine activity (walking to the grocery store, for example) that I felt very good – natural and free from discomfort.

I believe that Russell is very gifted as a healer, and that he is an expert practitioner of Rolfing.”
